Option One – Complimentary Coverage
We offer the Basic Complementary Insurance
Localmovings.com offers the coverage that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requires, which is the basic insurance required for in-state moves at 60 cents a pound per item damaged or lost. It does not cover walls nor floors. Texas Movers are required to offer this protection, though it’s minimal coverage: We assume liability by weight, not cost — for only up to 60 cents per pound per item. This kind of coverage might be fine for inexpensive items, but probably not your 55″ TV.
What Is Not Covered
- Loss or damage to jewelry, gemstones, cash, stamps, coin or currency, bank notes, checks, travelers check, deeds, letters or valuable papers of any kind, coin or stamp collections, photo albums, scrapbooks, perishable articles, firearms, ammunition or contraband. TV’s (plasmas) uncrated or without the original packing. Any item that was not packed by our low cost flatrate movers.
- Any internal electrical or mechanical component of any device unless external damages are duly noted in writing at the time of delivery.
- Loss of data and recalibration are also excluded.
- Damage to furniture made from pressed wood and/or particleboard.
- Loss or damage consisting of breakage of china, glassware, bottles, statuary, bric-a-brac, or items of a brittle nature unless the items have been packed by the carrier and is listed on the inventory. The carrier is not responsible for the content of boxes packed by the owner.
- Undamaged items to a pair or set where one or more items in the pair or set are lost or damaged.
- Tax, shipping or handling charges.
- Boxes you packed yourself: Though lots of people pack their own boxes to save money and time, movers aren’t liable for boxes they didn’t pack.
- Hazardous materials: Things like paint thinner, gasoline, or other dangerous chemicals aren’t likely to be covered.
- Pieces of furniture based on material: If your bed frame is made of pressed wood or particleboard, any damages might not be covered.
- Open boxes: Most moving companies will refuse to move any open boxes. Companies that will move them may not cover the contents if they’re damaged during transit.
- The wiring of electronics: This means the inside of your TV, stereo, laptop, and the inner workings of other electronic equipment.
- Musical instruments: Whether it’s a fancy guitar or hand-me-down high school brass, your mover may not cover it.
Valuation
Valuation Coverage Policy – LocalMovings.com
At LocalMovings.com, we make your move safe, transparent, and protected. Our valuation coverage ensures your belongings are covered for loss or damage during your move — at a rate and process designed to keep you fully informed.
What Valuation Coverage Means
Your inventory items are covered for loss or damage up to the declared valuation amount. To qualify for full replacement value, an item must be confirmed as lost or damaged beyond repair by our claims team.
Our coverage rate is $30 per $1,000 of declared value, with a $500 deductible and a $10,000 minimum for intrastate Texas moves.
How We Determine Compensation
If an item doesn’t meet the full-replacement criteria, LocalMovings.com will compensate you for whichever is less of:
The reasonable cost to repair the item, or
The cost to replace it with one of similar kind and quality.
Protecting High-Value Items
Certain items—like antiques, jewelry, fine art, or china—are considered high-value items if they are worth over $100 per pound. These must be listed and declared before your move.
If not declared, liability is limited to $100 per pound per item, based on the item’s weight. The total reimbursement cannot exceed the declared value of your shipment.
💡 Example: A 10-pound vase valued at $2,000 that is not declared beforehand would be covered up to $1,000 total ($100 per pound). Declaring valuable items ensures they receive full protection under our valuation policy.
Why Valuation Coverage Matters
Understanding moving company valuation coverage helps protect your investment and avoid misunderstandings. Unlike basic mover’s insurance (60 cents per pound), our valuation option gives you real protection based on item value — not just weight.
We’re proud to be a licensed and insured moving company in Texas, offering transparent pricing, detailed policies, and reliable service.
Localmovings.com’ assessment:
- The cost for repairing the damage.
- The cost to replace the destroyed or lost item with similar kind or quality.
- Working with your schedule so the move happens at a convenient time for your business
WHEN MOVING INTO AND OUT OF OUR STORAGE
- If you select Option One and your move requires storage, while in storage your items will be covered up to $2,500 with a $500 deductible or .60 per pound, whichever is greater.
- If you select Option Two and your move requires storage, while in storage you will be charged $30.00* per $1,000.00 of your Valuation for each month your items are in our storage facility.
- Your move out of storage is a separate move for which you must choose the same coverage option that you selected for the move into storage.
- If Local Movings moved your belongings into a storage unit, and you subsequently hire another moving company for your move out of that storage unit, Local Movings will no longer be liable for any damages the other moving company might declare during your move out. The reason for this policy is that we cannot guarantee the handling procedures of other moving companies or determine if any damages were caused by them during your move out of storage.
Certificates of Insurance vs. Additional Insured Requirements
Proof of Insurance (Certificate of Insurance – COI) Local Movings provides Certificates of Insurance at no additional cost. A standard COI confirms that we are fully licensed and insured and shows our general liability coverage limits. This document demonstrates that we are insured for accidental damage that may occur during a move and satisfies most residential, commercial, and building management requirements. Additional Insured & Waiver of Subrogation Some buildings, property managers, or commercial facilities require that they be named as Additional Insured with a Waiver of Subrogation. This is a separate insurance endorsement that extends our policy protections to the requesting entity and alters our carrier’s risk exposure. Because this endorsement is issued and billed directly by our insurance carrier, any carrier-imposed cost is passed through to the client. Fees vary based on the number of entities and the endorsement duration required. Transparency Matters We believe in clear, upfront communication. Standard COIs are always provided at no charge. Additional insured endorsements are optional and only processed when specifically required by a building or management company.
Credit Cards and Zelle Accepted.
Insurance Requirements for Commercial Moves
Insurance & Building Requirements
For commercial moves, Local Movings provides a Certificate of Insurance (COI) at no additional cost upon request. This document confirms that we are properly insured for any accidental damage that may occur during the move.
Some buildings or property managers require additional coverage, such as being named as an Additional Insured and/or requesting a Waiver of Subrogation. These requests require a carrier-issued endorsement and may involve an additional fee charged by our insurance provider.
Any carrier-required endorsement fees are disclosed in advance and passed through at cost. We are happy to review building requirements and confirm whether a standard COI is sufficient before proceeding.
